Scott McCloud

The Sculptor
  • The female character in the sculptor based on the woman Scott McCloud was in love with for 7 years (and is now his wife, isn't this a beautiful love story)
  • Uses digital media, to review his work he prints out HUGE sheets of paper so he can see all the comic panels at once. Which is pretty wild! The man interviewing him was the same guy from thought bubble who thought that digital media was cheating in a way, but Scott McCloud wants MORE technology.
  • Scott McCloud has a "unsteady hand but a steady eye" when he draws something wrong he can see that it's wrong and why it's wrong but can have trouble fixing it.
  • Had his work called "servicable" - his response "Good. I worked hard to get my work up to servicable"

  • In regards to comics and world building, referencing is important - every minor character has their own story and this can be shown even if they're just in the background. He wants the viewer to feel surrounded in a 360 degree view of the world he has created.
  • "Struggle In Obscurity but with Passion" - do what you love, don't compromise your morals for fame/money. (maybe money if you're desperate)
  • "That Scott McCloud could take the fun out of a handjob"
  • If you're not good at something naturally, just invent a field and be the best at that.
