I collaborated with a real human being

I designed this logo (just the text) for a singer at Leeds College of Music. I was excited about doing it, I had been suggested via the Girls that Gig facebook page.

I was definitely interested in working with musicians and thought this would be a good thing to add to my portfolio.

It was a great experience interacting with a real human being who had set the brief for me, she was really friendly and gave me loads of feedback. She gave me a lot of free reign with the project and was ultimately happy with what I made but I wasn't.

I took this on knowing that type wasn't my strong suit, as someone said "illustrators, they dont know anything about typography" and they were right.

I tried, I swear. I really gave it my all. It made me realise that that was not something I could do regularly.  Any type projects in the future are going to have to be collaborations with graphic designers or happy with my freehand scrawl and not a big fancy calligraphic thing.

Since this was real for a real person, it felt like I was actually doing some work and working to their deadlines. We decided to do this on a basis that we both get something out of it - she gets the logo, I get the experience.

She did ask me afterwards if I could do some more, the title of the album. If I had taken it on I would have arranged some kind of payment but I had a lot on at the time as it was close to the dissertation deadline, so I had to turn her down.
