Trident Arts

http://www.templeofwatain.com/tridentarts/port13.html

I was listening to GHOST B.C (or just Ghost as they are now known) and realised I thought the album cover for opus eponymous was pretty cool. It's got the shape, colour & texture elements that I favour in my work and gives me some hope that I would be able to find a place / people to work with in the music industry

Chloe Sheppard's Lust For Life

I follow Dazed's facebook page and it usually spits me out some cool stuff that I like from time to time.

This was titled "If Page 3 were made by women". SO I WAS INTERESTED IMMEDIATELY.
As my views are totally feminist and against that misogyny, but also nude / sex positive so stuff like this really interests me!!

It's the whole things made by women, aimed for women kind of ethos

Though I also find the gender binary a bit awkward to deal with, so I guess it's more things made by femmes for femmes? This whole vibe I want to replicate in some of my EP work, particularly the 'beauty product branding' stuff I'm working on as a lot of advertising etc etc is run by men so things designed for women are centred towards the male gaze and I AM NOT ABOUT THAT LIFE.

Dismantled Patriarchy and such.

It's diverse in sense of body shape, ethnicity etc, subversive, non-male gaze oriented. It's cool, I dig it. I think it relates quite closely to my COP. If only I had seen it before then!

'Elevator Pitch'

I find these things so difficult because I'm pretty self deprecating when I talk about myself. I also find a snappy tagline that I write on social media is not how I would talk about myself... with my voice.

On social media I often describe myself as a "Kooky Creative, printer, painter, general maker, chronic doodler and village witch" and I think this is a phrase that works in online and written statements but not spoken word.

It became very apparent I don't know how to describe my practice when I was asked about it on the weekend so I'm going to try and get something succinct together.

30 seconds info I need:
who am I? Amber 'Ayy' Kaplan
what am I? Illustrator / Creative / Arteest
what defines my practice? experimental / versatile / interests focusing around feminism, LGBTQ+, pop culture, spooky stuff, naked ladies, prefereably all mashed together in some exciting imagery / a quite gothic aesthetic / texture / mixed media wizard
Currently working on? designs for makeup packaging based on Angela Carter's The Bloody Chamber,

You know how people kind of look like their dogs? I feel like my work kind of looks like me. It's a bit weird, pretty colourful, can be a little offensive to the eye but generally pretty interesting to look at & Always trying new things.

Cancer Sutra

I thought these were fun.

I like the idea of doing something informative with my work one day and this is definitely the kind of vain that I would work in - something humorous and a bit risque.
